Q&A with Kim Jones

Q: What do you love about the opera?

KJ: This is a glorious opera with wonderful melodies — Just a collage of glory!

Q: Is there something about your character or this opera that modern audiences can relate to?

KJ: How jealousy (envy) is one of the worst of the seven sins..

Q: Favorite aria/chorus from the piece?

KJ: The duet and chorus “Happy We” (because we need that right now)!

Q: What is it like to prepare for film?

KJ: Interesting. I have always wanted to be on film. I will be watching my weight and skin regimens (lol)!

Q: These operas center around a theme of transformation. How has the pandemic forced you to change? Have there been any silver linings?

KJ: It's been very difficult for us all since we've lost so much. I guess it has given us things to work on that we didn't have time for before, teaches us patience, is teaching us new things. We are warriors in a very challenging time so I think of that as being a silver lining

Q: As it’s Haymarket’s 10th anniversary, do you have a favorite Haymarket memory?

KJ: I have attended quite a few shows but I'm sure my most exciting was the first one I was in, which was a few summers ago, Orontea. Hearing the first read through was impressive everyone sounded like superstars. It was exciting to play two roles actually, my cupid costume was wonderful!

Enjoy the show and the many new ideas that this performances will bring!
